At
the moment, the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education consist
of three academic departments and one Excellent Centre for Technical and
Vocational Education (ACTiVE). (ACTiVE)
is the research and consultancy arm of the faculty. The academic
programmes of each department are auspices by the Head of Programmes who
looks into the functioning of their respective academic programmes
throughout the academic calendar.
The three operating departments are:
- The Department of Professional Education(JIP)
- The Department of Engineering Education(JPK)
- The Department of Vocational Education (JPV)
The Department of Professional Education
This
department focused in inculcate of professionalism in TT-TVET. The
academia of this department has a vast experiences and extensive
knowledge in various TT-TVET disciplines both locally and abroad; and
strives to meet its highest standard as represented by the Code and
Ethics of the Teaching Profession, of the Ministry of Education
Malaysia.
Among the activities engaged by this department are:
i) To provide teaching professionalism
courses for both pre-services and in-services TT-TVET programmes at
Degree, Post-graduate Diploma, Master, and Doctorate level.
ii) To conduct teaching professionalism
enhancement courses that inculcate knowledge, skills and character that
portrays true teaching professionalism, that comply to the ethical
standards of the teaching profession.
The Department of Engineering Education
Engineering Education is the activity of teaching knowledge and principles related to the core professional practice of engineering. This department is responsible to the teaching of content knowledge engineering and technology principles to undergraduates of the Bachelor of Engineering Education programmes of the faculty. Among the engineering teaching skills related courses conducted by this department are in civil, electrical, mechanical and information technology.
The Department of Vocational Education
Vocational Education is education that prepares people for specific trades, crafts and careers. This department is responsible to look after the teaching of industrial work process and procedural knowledge through apprenticeship system as prescribed by the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) of the National Dual Training System (NTDS) in Malaysia.
At present, the Malaysia Skills Certification programmes conducted under the jurisdiction of the Department for Vocational Education, are as the following;
- Electric and Electronics
- Building Construction
- Welding and Metal Fabrication
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
- Machining
- Creative Multimedia
- Hotel Catering
Centre of Excellence for Technical and Vocational Education (ACTiVE)
The task of research development of the FTVE is coordinated by the ACTiVE, the research and consultancy arm of the faculty. ACTiVE is responsible to promote state-of-the-arts innovation and new ideas for practices in TVET - both nationally and internationally. ACTiVE facilitates and encourages collaboration among faculty members to engage in activities including research, curriculum development and dissemination of new knowledge through publications, social services and leadership roles.
